A studio session shared with up to three other people, where each person works through their own program.

Semi-private sessions use the same studio and the same apparatus as a private session. Up to four people work at once, each on their own program, with your instructor moving between them.

The instruction is still individual. It arrives in turns rather than continuously, so part of the session is spent working through your own movements while your instructor is with someone else.

How a session runs

  1. Your own program

Each person in the room is working on their own movements. You are not following the person next to you.

  2. Setting up

Your instructor sets you up on your first piece of apparatus and explains the movements and the settings before they move on.

  3. Between turns

You work through your movements while your instructor sets up or corrects someone else, then they come back to you.

  4. Adjustments

Springs, range and lever length are set for the person, so two people can use the same apparatus at different levels.

  5. Sharing the room

The studio stays quiet enough to hear your own instructions, and corrections stay personal rather than being called across the room.

Choose a semi-private session when

  • You are comfortable enough with the equipment to work on your own between turns.
  • You want a program built for you without booking a full private session.
  • You would rather train with a few other people in the room than on your own.
  • You want to use the wider studio apparatus rather than the Reformer alone.

If the equipment is new to you, a private session gives you the whole session with your instructor to learn it before you share the room.

What you use

Semi-private sessions draw on the same studio apparatus as private sessions. Your program decides which pieces you work on.

  • Two reformers set up side by side beneath the Prack Pilates roundel painted on the studio wall

    Reformer

Spring resistance supports a wide range of strength, control and mobility work, lying, sitting, kneeling or standing.

  • The Cadillac trapeze table in the sunlit Prack Pilates studio, with reformers lined up along the far wall

    Cadillac

A frame of bars, straps and springs that can support a movement or add resistance to it, across a wide range of positions.

  • A client seated on the Wunda Chair, pressing the pedal with one foot and resting both arms across the handle

    Wunda Chair

A compact pedal and spring set-up used for strength, control, coordination and standing work.

  • A client balanced over the Ladder Barrel holding weights, in front of the Prack Pilates roundel on the wall

    Ladder Barrel

A curved barrel and ladder used for spinal mobility, side work and opening through the hips and shoulders.

  • The Avalon Chair and a ladder barrel in pale timber, beside studio windows looking onto Norfolk pines and palms

    Avalon Chair

A spring-assisted chair used for controlled strength and mobility work, with more range of positions than the Wunda Chair.

  • Two timber spine correctors on the studio floor, with the Cadillac and a rack of exercise balls behind them

    Spine Corrector

A shaped support used for trunk control, mobility and alignment work in varied positions.

  • Small equipment stored by the studio window: a BOSU balance trainer, weighted balls, resistance straps and a timber box, with potted plants alongside

    BOSU Ball

A domed balance trainer used to add balance, coordination and control challenges when the work calls for them.
