A Reformer class of up to eight people, following one class plan with the teacher guiding the room.

Everyone in a Group Reformer class works through the same plan at the same time. Your instructor teaches from the front, sets the pace and calls each movement, then comes to you individually when something needs changing.

Class styles carry different levels of pace and challenge, so how hard a class feels depends on the style you book rather than on the format itself.

How a class runs

  1. Before the class starts

Your instructor asks who is new to the class, so they know who to check on once the work begins.

  2. The class plan

The room works through one plan together. Each movement is named and shown, along with the spring setting it uses.

  3. Corrections

If your position needs changing, your instructor comes to you rather than calling it across the room.

  4. Modifications

A movement can be made easier or harder by changing the springs, shortening the lever or reducing the range. Doing what you can on the day is a normal part of the class.

  5. Finishing

The class finishes together. The aim for the room is that people leave feeling taller and more confident than when they walked in.

Choose Group Reformer when

  • You are comfortable on a Reformer and happy to follow a shared plan.
  • You want the pace and company of a class rather than a session built around you.
  • You want to train at a set time each week.

If you have not used a Reformer before, Foundation is the class built for learning it. Private Studio Pilates is the other way in, with more time to ask questions before you join a class.

The class styles

Group Reformer runs in four styles. They share the format and differ in pace and challenge.

Foundation
Choose this when you want a technique-focused introduction to group Reformer.
Tone
Choose this when you know the Reformer and want a controlled strength-focused class.
Sweat
Choose this when you are experienced and want a faster, more demanding class.
Men's Reformer
Choose this for a dedicated men's class focused on strength, mobility and control.
